I had been dreaming of shooting at the historic Knapp’s Castle for a few years now. So when Bethany asked me to take her and Chris’ engagement photos there I was ecstatic. Naturally I had to take a trip up there prior to see what was to be expected for their session. A couple weeks prior I went up with some friends and my boys … and boy was I glad I did. I was able to make some suggestions to Chris and Bethany on how to prepare for their experience there.
When we arrived it was sooo hot but soooooooo gorgeous. We sat down and had a picnic together to get to know each-other better. Normally I do happy hour or coffee but since we were on-top of a mountain amongst the ruins of a mansion,… a picnic is what we had to do. And I wasn’t mad about it. What you don’t see in the photos was the flies swarming us since we had sugary champs and charcuterie. But we made the best of it and had a ton of laughs … I even had to cut off the conversation so we can get to shooting. Lets just say I can’t wait to spend more time with them on their wedding day.
Chris and Bethany had this natural chemistry that was undeniable. I hardly had to promt the session. They blew me away as much as the views did. I also was very thankful for their courage to climb upon the ruins of the mansion. I’ve done it (my trip two weeks prior) and its not easy.
In short we had a blast, they and the views were stunning and I cannot wait to shoot their wedding in Morro Bay CA followed by their intimate receptions in San Luis Obispo Ca.
Hope you love these as much as I do.
